AkzoNobel restores Wat Arun to its former glory

Bangkok, July 11, 2022 – In honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother, Akzo Nobel Paints Thailand Ltd., the leading global paints and coatings company and maker of Dulux, through its Let’s Colour programme, restores the colour of Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn) to its former glory.

AkzoNobel restoration work covers repainting of the chapel and fence surrounding the main stupa of Wat Arun (The Temple of Dawn), which has been a remarkable landmark along the Chao Phraya River since time immemorial.

According to Sirilux Hemphan, Commercial Head of Akzo Nobel Paints Thailand Ltd., “The repainting of Wat Arun’s unique stupa and chapel entrance area is part of our Let’s Colour initiative. It is aimed to inspire and uplift communities, such as preserving this famous and remarkable landmark in Thailand through the power of paint.”

The AkzoNobel Cares umbrella of social impact programs and project, which includes Let’s Colour and various other partnerships, is a key component of the People pillar of AkzoNobel’s People. Planet. Paint. purpose.

Some fifty highly motivated people in the community and AkzoNobel employees volunteered to refresh the colour in the temple areas with Dulux’s premium quality exterior paint in the same white and gold colour shades as the original. The restoration work is being implemented in consultation with and supervision of the Fine Arts Department, to preserve the authentic look of the historical temple built in the early 19th century. Wall and enamel paints donated by AkzoNobel amounted to 300,000 baht.

So far, 2,566 Let’s Colour projects have transformed lives, uplifted communities, changed behaviour and made living space more fun, liveable and enjoyable for nearly 88 million people in 52 countries. They have been participated by 14,000 volunteers and consumed 1.8 million litres of paint.
